
The European Parliament rejected the 'Omnibus Law', a deregulation proposal to overhaul the EU Supply Chain Law (CSDDD). This proposal would have completely gutted the strict due diligence directives. The EPP Group – the conservative parties, that includes Germany's CDU/CSU – tried to push the proposal through Parliament by openly blackmailing the democratic parties: they threatened to scrap the directive altogether with the far-right if they didn’t get their way. A disastrous signal — not only for human rights in supply chains, but also for our democracy!
As a result, the EPP Group failed, and the negotiations will now start all over.
